UTAR STEM Outreach organised STEM workshops for 33 students from Chong
Hwa High School on 4 December 2023 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The workshops
were conducted by Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science
academics Dr Ong Ying Hui, Dr Thiam Hui San, Ir Dr Chong Woon Chan, Dr
Gulnaziya Issabayeva and
M. Kandiah
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MK FMHS) Head of Department of
Surgery Clinical Assoc Prof Dr Yan Naing Soe. Among the workshops conducted
were Chemical Engineering, Gas Chromatography, Scanning Electron Microscope,
and Adsorption Column Demonstration for Water Treatment.
The high school students also had the opportunity to participate in the
“Healthcare Exploration Day”, organised by the students of MK FMHS. Among
the activities held at the “Healthcare Exploration Day” were talks on
programmes such as Nursing, Traditional and Complementary Medicine,
Physiotherapy and Medicine; hands-on activities, explaining the mechanism,
clinical significance and demonstration of pupil dilation and knee jerk
reflex; competition on rearrangement of anatomy model; interactive CPR
sessions; cardiac cycle presentation, and demonstration on ECG.
