SPM English Writing Workshop @ SMJK San Min
In an effort to elevate the English writing skills of Form Five students in SMJK San Min and empower them with the vital tools for success in the SPM English examination, UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised an immersive and dynamic SPM English Writing Workshop at SMJK San Min on 4 December 2023. Held as part of the UTAR-SMJK San Min Talent Development Project, the workshop witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 140 students.
The SPM English Writing Workshop featured two CFS Kampar Campus academics, with Mr Lionel Keith Vytialingam taking the stage as the first speaker. During his session, Mr Lionel provided invaluable guidance to the students, delving into effective techniques and sharing useful phrases to enhance their writing skills. He also incorporated sample questions, helping students to grasp the key components needed to excel in extended writing.
Following this, CFS Kampar Campus academic Ms Chung Zi Ling conducted a fun and interactive vocabulary game that not only challenged the students but also served as an engaging platform to enhance their language skills. The groups that secured the highest scores walked away with attractive prizes.
The impact of the workshop was evident through the positive feedback received from the participants. Noel Chung Yun Xi, a student from Form Five STEM 2, expressed, “The workshop was perfect! I’ve never joined this kind of workshops before. I learned a lot today.” Guee Ming Hey, another student from Form Five STEM 2, shared, “The workshop was very helpful for SPM students. I learned many new vocabularies and cohesive devices. I hope to attend similar workshops again.”
