UTAR Vice President for Student Development and
Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong attended the China-ASEAN Human
Resources Cooperation and Development Forum and the China-ASEAN Human
Resources Service Expo on 3 and 4 November 2023 in Nanning, China.
The China-ASEAN Human Resources Cooperation and
Development Forum and the China-ASEAN Human Resources Service Expo marked
the 20th anniversary of the China-ASEAN Expo and Summit on
Business and Investment, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the “Belt
and Road” initiative.
Hosted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social
Security of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the event aimed to deepen collaboration
between China and ASEAN nations, fostering a more interconnected community.
Themed ‘Gathering Wisdom,
Collaborating for Shared Success’, the forum aspired to strengthen ties
and facilitate the construction of a closer China-ASEAN community with
shared destinies.
The event provided a comprehensive platform for
knowledge exchange with the principal forum addressing on high-quality
employment services. The event also featured three specialised sub-forums,
namely the China-ASEAN Collaboration for High-Skilled Talent, the 2023
China-ASEAN Youth Forum, and the 6th China (Guangxi) Human Resources Summit
and Smart Development Forum, and five exhibitions, showcasing achievements
in human resources services, innovative entrepreneurship, and the
inheritance of non-material cultural heritage. Furthermore, the event hosted
a large-scale talent recruitment fair, a national-level symposium on HR
service industry park development, and activities such as the China-ASEAN
Youth Talent Exchange.
In addition, Prof Choong was invited to deliver a
keynote address at the 2023 China-ASEAN Youth Forum, themed ‘From
Learning to Leading: Integrating Skill Development and Community Engagement
in Youth Talent Cultivation’. He had the opportunity to engage in
insightful discussions with academic counterparts from institutions such as
the Xiamen University School of International Relations/Research School for
Southeast Asian Studies, the Guangxi Minzu University College of ASEAN
Studies, the Wen Zhou Institute of University of Chinese Academy of
Sciences, and others. The dialogues included various topics, such as
academic exchanges, research collaborations, exchange student programmes,
study tours and more, fostering a dynamic platform for knowledge-sharing and
collaboration.

As part of their visit to Guangxi, Prof Choong and
Division of Community and International Networking Senior Assistant Manager
Ms Liu Dan also visited the Guangxi University of Foreign Languages (GUFL)
on 4 November 2023. They were warmly received by GUFL Vice President Prof
Song Yafei, Department of Administrative Affairs International Exchange
Office Deputy Chief Dr Zhang Yunzhi and Officer Ms Li Mengqing. The meeting
encompassed discussions on diverse topics, including study tours, student
and staff exchange programmes, postgraduate initiatives, and more. The
exchange served as a platform for exploring collaborative opportunities and
strengthening ties between the institutions.

While visiting, Ms Liu also took the chance to
explore potential collaborations with Zhejiang International Studies
University (ZISU), a collaborative partner of UTAR, on 8 November 2023. She
was warmly received by Division of International Exchange and Cooperation
Director Ms Tao Guoxia, School of Education Deputy Dean Dr Wang Linpu and
representatives of the School of Chinese Studies, the School of
International Business, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and
the School of Art and School of Culture and Tourism.
