In an effort to foster a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s rich
cultural heritage and history, more than 50 international exchange students
embarked on a captivating journey to the historical city of Malacca on 18
November 2023. The programme, which was organised by the Centre of Extension
Education (CEE) for the Student Exchange Programme (SEP), proved to be a
transformative experience for students from various corners of the globe.
Guided by SEP Inbound Coordinator Ms Wong Shin Chet and accompanied by
enthusiastic university buddies, these students undertook an educational
odyssey to unravel the layers of Malacca’s cultural tapestry.
Beyond its historical and cultural allure, Malacca offers
educational opportunities for students keen on understanding the
complexities of history and international relations. During visits to the
Stadthuys, Christ Church, and the labyrinthine alleys of Jonker Street, they
encountered a myriad of cultural expressions where Chinese, Malay, Dutch,
and Portuguese influences coalesce.
In reflection, this city is more than just a historical landmark;
it is a living canvas that continues to evolve while preserving its rich
heritage. For students eager to uncover the mysteries of the past and
understand the interconnectedness of cultures, Malacca serves as a
captivating classroom where history comes to life.
