Press conference on Tiger Sin Chew Chinese Education Charity Concert for UTAR Hospital

A press conference was organised to promote the upcoming Tiger Sin Chew Chinese Education Charity Concert for UTAR Hospital on 8 February 2023 at UTAR T&CM Centre.

The Tiger Sin Chew Chinese Education Charity Concert for UTAR Hospital aims to raise RM3million for UTAR Hospital and it will be held at HGH Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur on 3 November 2023.

The Tiger Sin Chew Chinese Education Charity Concert is a community project initiated by Tiger Beer, Sin Chew Daily and Guang Ming Daily. It has been held since 1994. The project aims to give back to society by assisting the development of Malaysian Chinese Education through fundraising. The project has helped more than 550 Malaysian schools in gathering more than RM370million.

Present at the press conference were Tiger Beer Marketing Manager Joyce Lim, Tiger Beer Area Sales Manager Eric Chan, Tiger Beer Sales Executive Tan Boon Hoe, Tiger Sin Chew Chinese Education Charity Concert National Co-ordinator Ricky Lim, Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd Communications and Promotion General Manager Tan Kim Chuan, Perak Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd Business Manager Foong Ching Mean, Perak Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd Business Development Director Alan Teh Pek Ling, UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, UTAR Council Member Hew Fen Yee, UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, UTAR T&CM Centre Director and Principal Practitioner Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, UTAR Hospital Project Chief Administrative Officer Chor Choy Yook, UTAR and UTAR Hospital staff, and Sin Chew Daily delegates.

Delighted and grateful for the tremendous support from Tiger Beer, Sin Chew Daily and Guang Ming Daily, Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “My sincere thanks to Tiger Beer for extending their great support by gathering funds for UTAR Hospital through a charity concert. Currently, we are still lacking more than RM50million in funds for the construction of UTAR Hospital. The cost of building the hospital is undoubtedly high, however, through donations from philanthropists and donors, we were able to come this far, procure good medical equipment and deliver good treatment experiences to people.”

He added, “I would like to thank our old friend Sin Chew Daily for giving us the opportunity to be part of the meaningful event. I would like to give my thanks to Datuk Eddie Heng Hong Chai as well for providing HGH Convention Centre as the venue and sponsoring the food for the charity concert.”

Prof Dato’ Ewe also shared that the medical services, provided by UTAR T&CM Centre, have been accepted positively by the public, reaching more than 16,000 patient visitations since April 2022. On 7 February 2023, T&CM Centre recorded a total of 151 patient visitations in a single day, which is a record breaker for the hospital.

Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd Communications and Promotion General Manager Tan thanked Tiger Beer as well for their continuous support in the collaborative effort. He said, “My sincere gratitude to Tiger Beer for their decades of effort in supporting the development of Malaysian Chinese education. Together, Tiger Beer and Sin Chew Daily have gone through countless ups and downs during our perseverance. We halted our operations for one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, nevertheless, we decided to proceed afterwards with the charity concerts through online method because we thought the developments of Malaysian schools and UTAR Hospital should not be delayed any longer.”

Tan also shared his personal thought about the development of UTAR Hospital and said, “My colleagues and I have been observing the development of this hospital since its foundation. As a Malaysian, I am proud to be able to witness the development of a medical institution that will provide quality medical services to fellow Malaysians.”

In her remarks, Tiger Beer Marketing Manager Joyce Lim commented, “Building a good hospital is never an easy task. That is why Tiger Beer is honoured to lend our strength and support in the collective effort to give back to society. Through the charity concert, we wish to increase people’s awareness towards the UTAR Hospital project, so that people will join the effort to improve the development of Malaysian education and healthcare system.”

She also enthused, “This is my first time setting foot in UTAR Kampar Campus, but I know many UTAR graduates who have excelled in their own fields of work. This proves that UTAR has cultivated many talents for Malaysia with their affordable-yet-quality education service. Now, UTAR is building a hospital to extend their act of giving back to society.”

Meanwhile, Tiger Sin Chew Chinese Education Charity Concert National Co-ordinator Ricky Lim gave a brief explanation about the preparation of the charity concert. He shared that the organising team will create short videos covering the effort displayed by UTAR and participating parties in preparation for the charity concert. The videos will also feature Kampar’s specialities such as delicacies, tourist attractions and culture. The videos will be available on online platforms, such as Sin Chew Pocketimes, Facebook and YouTube.
