UTAR and Solid Lab Sdn Bhd to develop cost-effective metal 3D printing system

UTAR and Solid Lab Sdn Bhd entered into a partnership through a memorandum of agreement (MoA) signing ceremony held at Sungai Long Campus on 3 February 2023. Under the MoA, both parties will work on a research project titled “Development and Deployment of a Cost-effective and Versatile Industrial Metal 3D Printing System” which will develop industrial-grade metal 3D printer and post-processing system.

Signing the MoA were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Solid Lab Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dr Bryan Cheong Chee Yuen while witnessing the signing ceremony were UTAR Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ts Dr Faidz bin Abd Rahman and Solid Lab Sdn Bhd Application Engineer Mr Lim Jeng Jit.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “Today’s signing ceremony is an excellent chance for both parties to come together to exchange knowledge and skills for collaborative research projects that will benefit both parties. UTAR believes in academia and industry collaboration as university researchers can assist industrial experts in identifying current research that may be useful in the design and development of potential products and improving the industry’s ability to compete globally.”

Dr Bryan Cheong said, “Our goal is to deliver cost-effective, versatile and flexible 3D printing solutions to produce industrial-grade products and parts. This project, in collaboration with UTAR, will form the catalyst for successful development and commercialised of our metal 3D printing system and help drive Malaysia’s industrial revolution 4.0 transformation.”
