Tsinghua University academics and students visit UTAR

On 13 February 2023, a group of 17 teacher and students from Tsinghua University, China visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus. They were led by Prof Zhang Shuo.

The visit was part of Tsinghua University’s Overseas Social Practice Programme for undergraduate education in the Department of Hydraulic Engineering. The visitors came to Malaysia for 12 days to study and learn about Civil and Hydraulic Engineering courses in Malaysia. They hoped to gain a deeper understanding of the courses by discussing them with UTAR.

The visitors were welcomed by UTAR Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Ir Prof Dr Huang Yuk Feng, LKC FES Head of Civil Engineering Department Ir Ts Dr Yip Chun Chieh, Institute of Chinese Studies Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Chin Chong Foh,  UTAR staff and students.

Dr Lai, in his welcome speech, bade a warm welcome to the visitors. Prof Zhang, on the other hand, introduced Tsinghua University to both the staff and students of UTAR.

Moreover, three academics from UTAR were invited to deliver talks at the meeting session. Dr Chin delivered a talk titled “The characteristics of Malaysian Chinese culture”, ICS academic Dr Kwan Kai Hong gave a talk related to Malaysian Chinese education, and LKC FES academic Ir Prof Dr Huang Yuk Feng gave a talk titled “A brief introduction to current research and consultancy work on water resources and climate change study”.

The visit ended with a group photography session.
