Prof Faidz welcomed the
participants and said, “It is important for researchers from
multidisciplinary fields to meet, discuss, debate and explore new avenues to
establish research collaboration and implement sustainable research projects
that address local and global issues. Today’s workshop serves as a platform
for researchers to come out with research proposals which will bring impact
to society.”
Prof Hairul said, “Important
topics have huge impacts on society. This is a good exposure for the
academics to get in-depth and share inputs for research projects which will
lead to humanising innovation. We will see how we can move forward to
produce research proposals and work with related agencies.”
A parallel session, which
addressed five different research areas, namely entrepreneurship projects
involving the community, public awareness related to scam activities, STEM
education, ageing-related studies and English education, was conducted at
the workshop. Representing UTAR for the research areas were Dr Wong Whee
Yen, Dr A. W. Sharon Jacqueline, Dr Ong Kiah Ju, Prof Dr Yap Sook Fan, Dr
Thaw Zin and Dr Nadya Supian.
The outcome of the discussion will
lead to research projects in the future and these research projects will
revolve around the areas of entrepreneurship in communities, raising public
awareness related to scam activities, building interest of school kids in
STEM education, health and well-being of ageing society in relation to
technology, and English education using technology.
