CFS hosts Safety and Health Explorace
The Occupational Safety and Health Committee of UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus hosted the Safety and Health Explorace on 3 December 2022. The event was organised by students from Universiti Teknologi Mara (Tapah Campus) from 8.30am to 12pm. The activities were focused on improving students’ awareness of safety and health measures which can be taken in laboratories, lecture halls and tutorial rooms of educational institutions.
The Safety and Health Explorace began with a briefing by the moderators to introduce the participants to common hazards such as fire, infectious diseases, poorly lit areas, bad weather, as well as unsafe acts in laboratories and workshops. The UTAR students who participated were then assigned into groups and were introduced to their group facilitators. The participants then worked in their teams to apply their knowledge of safety and health to complete the six checkpoint-based games.
The participants from UTAR also had a session to get acquainted with their facilitators and students from UiTM. The Explorace received a positive response from the participants. Foundation in Science student Maggie Ng Choi Hua said, “The Safety and Health Explorace imparted essential safety knowledge which I can apply not only in the laboratory, but also in my daily life. I had a great time completing the tasks with my team members and enjoyed interacting with the organisers during this Explorace”.
Foundation in Arts student, Ally Tan Sze Man enthused, “I am now more aware of the environment around me. The event was well-organised and I met new friends through this event. It would be great if more events like this can be organised in the future.”
The Programme Director, Muhammad Anas Najmi bin Muhamad Nadzir thanked the Centre for Foundation Studies for hosting the Safety and Health Explorace before presenting the prizes to the first, second, third and consolation prize winners.
The Head of Department of Science and Engineering, CFS (Kampar), Ooi Siew Fong then presented Muhammad Anas with a token of appreciation to thank him and his teammates for their effort in raising the awareness of UTAR students on the importance of safety and health in educational institutions. The Safety and Health Explorace ended with a group photo of the organising committee and participants.
