Two agreements were signed between UTAR and Zchwantech Sdn Bhd at Sungai Long Campus on 8 June 2023.

The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Zchwantech Director Alex Chan, who pre-signed the agreements earlier. The witnesses were UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong and Zchwantech Chief Technology Officer Chay Weei Jye, who represented Zchwantech and Managing Director Alex Chan at the event.

Based on the first education sponsorship collaboration agreement, Zchwantech would offer scholarships to deserving UTAR students, pursuing programmes in Computer Science, Information Systems Engineering, Art, and Design-related fields. The selection of students to be sponsored is subject to Zchwantech’s approval. For the second agreement, Zchwantech will donate RM100,000 to UTAR to establish the “UTAR-ZCHWANTECH Scholarship for Top Achievers”. This scholarship programme will provide 100% tuition fee coverage to two deserving students who pursue Business Administration and Finance programmes.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Zchwantech Sdn Bhd for providing these scholarships to our students. Your willingness to invest in the future of our students speaks volumes about your dedication to social responsibility and your belief in the power of education.”

He added, “As a University by the people for the people, UTAR has been receiving support and contributions from the community. As part of the effort to give back to society, the University has been providing scholarships and loans to students in need.  As of 2023, over RM184.8million internal scholarships and over RM14.3million internal loans have been awarded to students. Now thanks to your generous contribution, we can continue to provide scholarships to more students who are in need.”

Meanwhile, Chay said, “I am truly happy to be here today. I would like to thank your team for making this happen. I am grateful for this opportunity to work together, collaborate and to make our goals a reality. This day marks an important milestone between UTAR and Zchwantech.
