UTAR receives visitors from REHAU

REHAU German Third Rail (Commercial) Director Andy Wächter and REHAU Polymer Sdn Bhd Railway Solution Asia Pacific Region Director Andrew Chong, who is also the industrial advisor of UTAR Centre for Railway Infrastructure and Engineering (CRIE), visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 29 May 2023 to discuss potential collaboration opportunities in driving technology advancement as well as bolstering up the region’s capacity to manufacture, commercialise, and deploy critical technologies in railway.

During the meeting

They were welcomed by Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Ir Dr Ling Lloyd, CRIE Secretary Dr Ong Chuan Fang and LKC FES academics Dr Hau Lee Cheun and Dr Lee Yong Hong.

The meeting discussion centred on collaboration opportunities for both parties, such as research collaboration, industrial attachment, job opportunities, mutual visits, and joint training courses.

REHAU and UTAR will jointly look into the plausibility of research on commercializable products, such as the glass-reinforced plastic insulator, and seek additional government grants to make it a success. REHAU Polymer Sdn Bhd, as an MoU partner of UTAR, envisions that the mutual collaboration would heighten UTAR CRIE as a regional hub to connect the railway industry players and academic institutions.

The visit ended with a campus tour and a luncheon session.
