UTAR Safety Exhibition 2023
With the aim to raise awareness and educate the public about harassment, its adverse effects, and effective prevention strategies, UTAR Kampar Crime Prevention Society successfully organised UTAR Safety Exhibition 2023 from 19 to 20 April 2023, at the Multipurpose Hall of UTAR Kampar Campus.
The exhibition saw an impressive turnout of more than 900 participants, comprising of students, faculty staff, and members of the wider community. Notably, the event was graced by several guests from various organisations, including representatives from Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM) and Malaysia Crime Prevention Society (MCPF). The exhibition was also attended by UTAR Student Representative Council 2022/2023 of Kampar Campus.
The exhibition kick-started with an opening ceremony, marked by inspiring speeches from the guest of honour, the Communication Coordinator of Suara Rakyat Malaysia S. Divya, Treasurer of Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation, Perak Chung Kok Heung, UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, and Organising Chairperson of UTAR Safety Exhibition April 2023 Lam Yoke Kai.
Also present at the opening ceremony were Advisor of UTAR Crime Prevention Society M. Kavitha, Head of UTAR Department of Student Affairs (DSA) Kampar Campus Chiang Jeng Fong, Manager of UTAR Centre for Healthy Minds & Wellbeing Ng Foo Yek, DSA Coordinator of UTAR Safety Exhibition April 2023 Lau Jean Moon, Documentation and Monitoring Coordinator of Suara Rakyat Malaysia Jernell Tan, and Chairperson of Student Representative Council UTAR Kampar Campus 2022/2023 Chu Min Wei.
In general, the speeches emphasised the urgency of addressing harassment and fostering a safer community for all.
Expressing her gratitude to all the guests and participants, Lam enthused, “We sincerely hope that our exhibition has brought a renewed awareness and understanding of the seriousness of harassment, and empowered our attendees to take necessary actions against it. We are convinced that the discussions, conversations, and actions that have ensued from the exhibition will lead to the creation of safer and more inclusive communities. We would like to express our gratitude for your continued support and interest in our safety exhibition. Thank you.”
The exhibition saw an array of interactive displays, informative booths, and enlightening workshops aimed at equipping attendees with practical skills and knowledge to combat harassment. Every station covered different topic of harassments, such as sexual harassment, cyber-bullying/online harassment, physical harassment, discriminatory harassment, and workplace harassment.
