A total of four lecturers from UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus conducted a Secondary Writing Workshop for 180 Form Five students at SMK Bukit Mertajam in Penang on 16 June 2023. The primary objective of the workshop was to enhance students’ English language proficiency in preparation for their SPM exams.

The workshop commenced with a speech by CFS Kampar Campus lecturer Soon Cai En, who shared valuable insights on tackling writing questions. She emphasised the importance of fulfilling key points and meeting the minimum requirements. Additionally, she provided a breakdown of dos and don’ts for effective writing.

Next, CFS Kampar Campus lecturer G. Kanimozhi enlightened the students on how to improve vocabulary. She started with a soft rendition of a song that attracted cheers and whoops from the students. She further highlighted that learning vocabulary is not difficult, and can be achieved using simple methods, such as listening to songs or reading.

In the final segment, CFS Kampar Campus lecturer Siti Sarah binti Muhamad Azmi engaged the students in a fun language game. Several students walked away with prizes in their hands and smiles on their faces. The workshop ended with a group photo and souvenir exchange ceremony.

Overall, the workshop was a great success. The students found it beneficial and engaging, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge to enhance their English language proficiency and excel in their upcoming SPM exams.
