UTAR President visits Tsinghua University and Chinese Academy of Engineering in Beijing

UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, accompanied by his wife Datin Dr Chua Lee Lee, visited Tsinghua University (THU) and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in Beijing, China on 27 June 2023.

During a recent personal visit by Prof Dato’ Ewe to Beijing, he visited Tsinghua University and Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Tsinghua University Vice President Prof Wang Hongwei and Office of International Affairs Associate Dean Wang Hui extended a warm welcome to Prof Dato’ Ewe and Dr Chua.

The visit entailed discussions to seek more collaborative opportunities between THU and UTAR. An MoU framework between both institutions was discussed and established that included student study tours and exchanges, staff exchange, joint research collaborations, and participation in academic activities. Both institutions welcomed more of such collaborative exchanges in the interest of the students to widen their international exposure.

Apart from this, both institutions explored possible collaborations in other areas that included collaborations with THU South East Asia Centre in Bali, Indonesia; as well as, discussions on collaboration in Modern Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

On the same day, another visit was made to the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) where Prof Dato’ Ewe had a meeting with its International Cooperation Department Director-General Mr Tian Qi and CAE Fellow and ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET) Foreign Fellow Academician Du Xiangwan. Prof Dato’ Ewe visited CAE in his capacity as the AAET President.

Discussions between both parties included CAE and AAET to sign an MoU soon to facilitate further collaborations and academic activities in engineering, medicine and technology. The discussions also touched on the third joint webinar/seminar on TCM in hybrid mode which is set to be organised this year in Malaysia. The discussions also included the annual joint forum with roundtable meeting and the extension of collaboration to new energy, AI, medicine and many more areas.
