Sustainable Waste Management Practices by UTAR STEM Outreach

UTAR STEM Outreach, in collaboration with Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), organised a community project, namely “Sustainable Waste Management Practices” on 22 June 2023 at Paramount Corporation Berhad (PCB), Shah Alam, to raise awareness on sustainable waste, and provide knowledge on sustainable management and practices to PCB staff.

The project began with a talk, titled “5R in Integrated Waste Management”, by LKC FES academic Assoc Prof Dr Gulnaziya Issabayeva. After the talk, PCB staff engaged themselves in some hands-on activities, such as DIY composting of food wastes, disassembly of different materials for recycling, and sorting out solid wastes. The materials used in the activities were well-prepared for the PCB staff to practise. UTAR students Pang Chee Yung, Soo Mei Yoke, and Raynold Dass were the helpers of the activities.

Overall, the responses from the participants were positive. UTAR students were well engaged in the activities and provided good explanations to the participants on the respective activities
