UTAR holds joint seminar with NYCU

Academics from the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 5 July 2023. During the visit, the two parties held a joint seminar to exchange ideas and their latest research outputs. The NYCU delegates also visited Kampar Campus on 4 July 2023.

UTAR Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ts Dr Faidz bin Abd Rahman gave a warm welcome and said, “This joint seminar will provide an excellent opportunity for academics and researchers from both universities to formulate closer ties, network and form a base to seek further exchanges for more academic outcomes. It is important for researchers, especially, to widen their scope of interests and knowledge and to extend their reach to international universities. The exchange of ideas, insights and findings can lead to further fruitful research partnerships and advancements in various fields.”

A total of 13 academics presented their research at the joint seminar. The presenters from NYCU were Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME) Chairperson Prof Dr Huang Cheng-Sheng (Jason), DME Distinguished Prof Ching Yao Chen, DME Assoc Prof Dr Tsai Chia-Hung (Dylan), DME Prof Dr Lau Gih Keong, DME Prof Dr Lua Kim Boon and DME academic Tan Zu Puayen.

Representing UTAR at the joint session were Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Computing Applications Chairperson Prof Ts Dr Yau Kok Lim, Centre for Healthcare Science and Technology Chairperson Assoc Prof Ir Dr Chee Pei Song, Centre for Sustainable Mobility Technologies Chairperson Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Bernard Saw Lip Huat, and Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science academics Ir Dr Tey Jing Yuen, Ir Dr Danny Ng Wee Kiat, Dr Ng Oon-Ee and Dr Shalini Darmaraju.

The joint seminar brought together academics from both NYCU and UTAR, where they shared their research and ideas on various topics such as RGB-D Sensors, Robotics, Spaceflight and Rocket Development, Vortex Dynamics, Thermal, and 3D Printing. Following the seminar, NYCU academics visited the laboratories at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The academics also engaged in a group discussion which focused on funding applications, proposal development, idea exchange and capstone projects, fostering collaboration and exploring potential research opportunities.
