A group of international exchange
students embarked on a captivating heritage city tour in Malacca on 15 July
2023, accompanied by the Centre for Extension Education inbound coordinator
Wong Shin Chet, and enthusiastic university buddies.
The first destination of the tour
was the Turtle Conservation and Information Centre in Malacca, an
educational facility, providing an excellent opportunity for students to
delve into the study of turtle habitats and environmental conservation
efforts. Students were fortunate enough to witness the awe-inspiring moment
of newly hatched baby turtles.
Continuing their exploration,
students embarked on a visit to the captivating heritage sites nestled
within the heart of Malacca city. They were introduced to the iconic
A'Famosa Fort, the remnants of St. Paul’s Church, and the Stadthuys. These
historical landmarks offered valuable insights into the early stages of
Malacca’s rich history.
As the tour progressed, a
delectable treat awaited the students at the renowned Jonker Street, as they
immersed themselves in the culinary delights of Baba Nyonya cuisine and the
signature Malaccan delicacy. The vibrant atmosphere and flavourful
gastronomic offerings of Jonker Street provided a memorable experience for
all.
The immersive day trip through
Malacca left a lasting impression on the UTAR international exchange
students, deepening their understanding of the city’s rich heritage and
cultural significance. The excursion fostered cultural exchange, heightened
their appreciation for environmental conservation, and introduced them to
the diverse culinary traditions of the region.
