STEM Outreach conducts drone workshop at MRSM Bentong

The UTAR STEM Outreach organised STEM Outreach: Drone Experience Workshop for 320 students at MRSM Bentong on 7 July 2023. The objective of the event was to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and cultivate secondary school students’ interest in those areas.

The workshop started with a talk titled “STEM: The Key to Innovation”. It was delivered by UTAR Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ts Dr Faidz bin Abd Rahman. After the talk, the students began their “Drone Experience Workshop” session where they were briefed about the types of drones, the concept behind drone operation and the applications of drones. The students were also given an opportunity to try their hands at handling the drones.

In addition, the academics and student helpers from Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science conducted a total of three activities for the students. Among the activities conducted were drones taking off; avoiding obstacles with a drone; reaching the destination with the drone, and landing the drone on hand.

Overall, STEM Outreach: Drone Experience Workshop allowed students to dive further into STEM-related fields. They all gained valuable knowledge and hands-on experience through the activities, workshop and talk held on that day.
