Aimed at promoting awareness of mandatory staff contribution towards the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), also known as PERKESO, and Employment Insurance Scheme (EIS), a talk on “Benefits of SOCSO and EIS to employees” was organised on 5 July 2023 by the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus’ Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee at UTAR Kampar Campus.

Speakers Pegawai Eksekutif PERKESO, Cawangan Pencegahan, Perubatan & Pemulihan Mohd Radzi bin Ismail and Pengurus Kes, Sistem Insurans Pekerjaan (SIP) ‘Ain Farhanim binti Azizan also educated participants on the benefits and protection offered by SOCSO and EIS for employees.

Mohd Radzi spoke further on “Skim perlindungan dan faedah-faedah PERKESO” byintroducing the functions of PERKESO, the different types of schemes offered by PERKESO, and the criteria to be eligible for certain schemes in the event of accidents or other unfortunate incidences. The benefits included medical benefits, temporary disability benefits, permanent disability benefits, as well as others such as rehabilitation and death benefits. He further shared the contributions that can be made by those who are self-employed or housewives.

Second speaker, ‘Ain Farhanim elucidated on “Taklimat majikan dan perkhidmatan pekerjaan”. She explained the assistance and benefits offered to insured persons under EIS, which was established in 2018. She also shared the available programmes that EIS offered to those who have lost their job, which include Re-employment Placement, Job Search Allowance, Early Re-employment Allowance, Training Allowance as well as Training Fee.

Participants also learnt about MYFutureJobs, a portal which allows job seekers and fresh graduates to search for available jobs. The portal can be accessed for free and she encouraged the lecturers who were present to share about this portal with their students to aid their job search upon graduation.

The talk ended with an interactive Q&A session and saw CFS Kampar Department of Science and Engineering Head Ooi Siew Fong, who is also the Chairperson of the Centre Occupational Safety and Health Committee, presenting tokens of appreciation to the speakers.
