Dr Mohd delivers the speech
Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre for Social and Policy
Studies (TCLC) organised a talk titled “Amalan
Pendemokrasian Pendidikan Dalam Pengelolaan Sekolah Agama Islam dan Sekolah
Cina di Malaysia” with UiTM Perlis Branch on 9 June 2023 at UTAR Sungai
Long Campus and via online.
Faculty of Creative Industries Department of General
Studies academic Dr Mohd Syuja bin Saedin was invited to deliver the talk. A
total of 53 participants attended the hybrid talk. TCLC Chairperson Assoc
Prof Dr Chin Yee Mun joined the talk as well.
Dr Mohd Syuja began the talk by sharing the history
of Islamic and Chinese schools. He explained that the Islamic school was
referred to as ‘Pondok’ and ‘Madrasah’ in
the 18th and 19th centuries. Dr Mohd Syuja then moved on to
explain the category and the current status of the Islamic and Chinese
schools in Malaysia.
Speaking of education democratisation, Dr Mohd Syuja
went on a great length to explain its definition and discuss his findings on
it. He also provided some suggestions on effective school management, which
included the freedom in achieving the main goal of the school establishment,
the freedom of curriculum offering and school certification, the freedom to
obtain rights in the constitution and legislation, independence of school
management authority and the right to receive government financial
assistance.
The talk ended with a Q&A session.
