Tripartite MoU between UTAR, LINX Malaysia Sdn Bhd and MVTec Software GmbH

A tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between UTAR, LINX Malaysia Sdn Bhd and MVTec Software GmbH on 13 June 2023 at Sungai Long Campus. Signing the MoU were LINX Malaysia Sdn Bhd General Manager Yutaka Shimaguchi and UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat. MVTec Software Regional Sales Manager Hew Wei Zhi presigned the MoU before the ceremony.

Yutaka Shimaguchi said, “I would like to extend my sincere appreciation for this MoU signing opportunity. We have worked hard and succeeded in expanding our business and offices to Kuala Lumpur. I believe Malaysia is a great place for automation and machine vision. I hope our collaboration will flourish and produce outstanding results in the near future.”

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “UTAR adopts the academia-industry strategy to provide opportunities for our students to gain more exposure, practical knowledge and experience in the industry while pursuing their studies at the University. A good balance is necessary to ensure our students graduate with sufficient industry knowledge to be able to contribute positively to the growth and development of the nation.”

Under the MoU, the three parties will work together to initiate joint international collaborative research, joint talent training programme and industrial placement for UTAR students. The MoU will also facilitate the initiation of joint international collaborative research and activities such as MVTec on Campus Workshop to provide students with more exposure to HALCON, a worldwide cutting-edge machine vision library.

Also present at the signing ceremony were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, LKC FES Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, LKC FES Department of Mechatronics and BioMedical Engineering Head Ir Dr Goh Choon Hian, LKC FES academics Dr Ng Oon-Ee and Dr Kwan Ban Hoe, and Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn. Representing LINX Malaysia Sdn Bhd were its Sales Manager Jessica Tan and Technical Product Specialist Whitney Liew.
