UTAR Sungai Long Campus held a physical orientation
programme to welcome the new intake of Foundation and Undergraduate
students. It was organised by the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) of
UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The programme began on 11 and 18 June 2023 for the
undergraduate and foundation students respectively.
The aim of the orientation event was to introduce the
new students of the Foundation and Undergraduate programmes to the
University and allow them to acclimatise to their surroundings. It also
aimed to provide them with an opportunity to socialise with one another and
make new friends to further enhance their university experience.
On the first day of both orientation programmes, the
new students were required to submit their admission documents and education
certificates, as well as collect their orientation packs which consisted of
a UTAR t-shirt, a document folder and other goodies at UTAR Multipurpose
Hall.

The orientation’s second day saw ice-breaking and
grouping activities held at the Multipurpose Hall, where the freshmen got
into different groups and had the chance to socialise, introduce themselves
and make friends as they played a variety of games. For the foundation
students, a campus hunt activity was held on the same day. It required them
to search for clues and solve puzzles. This activity took place on the
subsequent day for the undergraduate students. A multitude of talks and
briefings were also conducted on the second and third days of the programme.
They included campus adjustment talks and briefings on the library, safety
and security, soft skills, scholarships and financial aid.

The orientation programme also featured Faculty Day
and Centre Day for the undergraduate and foundation freshmen; it took place
on 14 June 2023 and 21 June 2023 respectively. The Faculty Day and Centre
Day served to enlighten the new students on their academic programmes,
course structure, expected schedules and other important academic
announcements.
One of the main highlights of the orientation
programmes was the Talent Time session which was held on the fifth day. The
purpose of this activity was to allow the new students to showcase their
talents and cooperation in creating an amazing short sketch. There were also
breathtaking performances by the Dance Club and the Chinese Orchestra Club
throughout the Talent Time session.

UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat was invited to give an
insightful speech to the freshmen. To read more about the orientation

Throughout the rest of both the foundation and
undergraduate orientation programmes, other activities such as city tours,
hiking exercises, club and societies promotion and recruitment, community
awareness campaigns or “gotong-royong”,
and a blood donation campaign were conducted. These activities were
beneficial and fun for the students, and they further enriched their
university life. Overall, the orientation programmes were a success, and
UTAR would like to take this opportunity to welcome all the new students to
the Sungai Long Campus.
