Preparing for future careers

The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised a talk titled “The elephant and the flea, redux” on 22 February 2023 at the Faculty of Science of UTAR Kampar Campus. The talk welcomed a total of 138 participants.

The talk was delivered by Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) Department of Economics Prof Dr Wong Chin Yoong. Prof Wong is a professor of economics at the Faculty of Business and Finance of UTAR; a UTAR columnist for Nanyang Siang Pao, Smart Investor and The Malaysian Insight; an economic advisor for MyStartr, FMM, MBI and UNDP, and a TV host for 8TV Money Matters and BFM Caijin programmes.

His talk aimed to highlight the importance of developing a portfolio career in the age of solopreneur and picking up different skillsets best fitted for this new age in seeking and securing future job opportunities.

The talk started with Prof Wong asking the audience about their favourable career and lifestyle. He motivated participants, who will be future employees, to think like an entrepreneur and develop their skills. The speaker also mentioned that developments in the working industry/organisation will bring changes to the employee’s work, lifestyle and future career planning. He also said that the rapid development of the ICT revolution will open doors for companies and organisations to outsource employees and resources to support their task distributions. 

The talk ended with a Q&A session followed by the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to Prof Wong by CFS Deputy Director of Student Affairs and Development Lim Khiew Loon.
