The Inbound Student
Exchange Programme students from Sungai Long Campus had a chance to go on a
day trip to Kuala Lumpur on 11 February 2023 to familiarise themselves with
some of the many landmarks in the capital city of Malaysia.
The first
destination of the trip was Merdeka Square whereby students were given
insight
into how that place was considered the most
important historical landmark in the history of Malaysia. Apart from that,
the students also visited the Sultan Abdul Samad building and the Kuala
Lumpur City Gallery.
After spending some time at Independence Square, the students
visited the Central Market of Kuala Lumpur. There the students were able to
enjoy a vibrant assortment of
the
traditional art collection in the market, which
ranges from traditional crafts such as the ‘Wau’,
a Malay rendition of a kite, to clothes such as the ‘Baju Melayu’ – the
traditional attire of the Malay community. The students bought some
handcrafted keychains as souvenirs for their family and friends back home.
After that, the students popped by the neighbouring Petaling Street where
they were able to experience and witness the hustle and bustle of Kuala
Lumpur’s Chinatown.
The trip was
followed by a tour of the Petronas Twin Tower, an iconic building well-known
as one of the tallest twin towers in the world. They were also able to take
a stroll amidst the beautiful park surrounding the
landmark and shop at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which was based at
the bottom of the twin towers.
Lastly, the
students were brought to visit a religious landmark called the Putra Mosque
located at Putrajaya. It was an impressive and beautiful piece of human
architecture. The students marvelled at the intricate interior designs and
were awestruck by the beauty of it all.
The day ended with
beautiful memories to be cherished and shared with family and friends back
home.
