Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)
and the Federation of Taoist Associations Malaysia (FTAM) signed a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Sungai Long Campus on 10 March 2023.

Hong Tat gave a speech at the event. He said,
“With the signing of
this MoU, UTAR and FTAM will officially begin the strategic partnership to
initiate joint research initiatives for Taoism study. This is a good
opportunity for both parties to come together to share knowledge and
expertise for a win-win partnership in research projects together.”
He added, “UTAR and FTAM will also
work together to facilitate the academic staff of both universities for
professional development, enhance their learning experience and jointly
organise activities related to Taoism. We can also work closely on
organising seminars, talks, conferences, and workshops. These initiatives
would provide academics and students with an excellent learning opportunity
to improve their learning experience, professional development and
curriculum development.”
FTAM President Daozhang Tan Hoe Chieow
said, “I am honoured to be here today to sign this MoU with UTAR. Through
this MoU, we hope to begin academic cooperation with UTAR by holding talks,
seminars, conferences, workshops, etc., to promote Taoist culture.” He also
expressed his hope to see a Taoist society set up at UTAR. “I hope through
this MoU, we can work together and make it successful,” he added.
The MoU between UTAR and FTAM was
signed by Prof Dato’ Ewe and Daozhang Tan. The witnesses were UTAR Vice
President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi
Bok Min and FTAM Secretary Lau Chean Kiat.
Under this MoU, both parties will
initiate joint projects involving collaborative research related to the
study of Taoism and facilitate exchanges of ideas by jointly organising
seminars, conferences, workshops, and more.
