UTAR and International Buddhist College, Thailand (IBC) established partnership with an exchange of memorandum of understanding (MoU) at UTAR Kampar Campus on 14 April 2023.

The MoU was pre-signed by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and IBC Council Chairman Venerable Wei Wu. It was exchanged by UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong and Venerable Wei Wu.

Through the MoU, UTAR and IBC will join effort in international collaborative research projects, joint talent training, exchange of academics for teaching and learning research programmes; joint academic activities, student exchange, internship, and joint guidance of master and doctoral students.

Representing UTAR President, Prof Choong said, “I am happy to witness the official collaboration between UTAR and IBC. I believe it will bring more fruitful and mutually beneficial outcomes to both parties.”

In his remarks, Venerable Wei Wu shared some future plans of IBC, saying, “We hope to integrate traditional medicine courses in the future as there is no Buddhist higher education institute with elements of traditional medicine in Thailand yet. I look forward to having more collaborations with UTAR in the future.”

Also present at the MoU signing ceremony were IBC Director of Administration Affair Venerable Zhen Yuan, IBC lecturer Lim Lay Hong, delegates of Than Hsiang Foundation Chia Ming Tik, Sow Gaik Yen and Liang Nee; UTAR Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Wong Wun Bin, ICS Head of Programme for Postgraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Tan Ai Boay, ICS Head of Department of Chinese Studies (Kampar Campus) Dr Toh Teong Chuan, Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Deputy Director Dr Chen, I-Chi and DCInterNet Senior Assistant Manager Chin Sau Lai.
