Insightful workshops for teachers in East Malaysia
The Centre for Curriculum Development and Innovation (CCDI), and the Division of Programme Promotion (DPP) joined hands to organise insightful workshops for teachers from three schools in East Malaysia. The three-day workshop, which lasted from 28 to 31 March 2023, aimed at strengthening networks between UTAR and the schools.
The workshop sessions also included a talk given by Head of CCDI Dr Ngeow Yeok Meng, who explained the recent changes in the teaching and learning process. She drew attention to survey findings of related surveys conducted in March 2023. The findings revealed how teachers cope with the teaching situation and thoughts in class.
SMJK Chung Hwa, Tenom Sabah
The team visited SMJK Chung Hwa, Tenom Sabah to conduct a workshop titled “Embracing the new normal in student learning” on 28 March 2023. They were warmly welcomed by SMJK Chung Hwa Principal Madam Ouu Chu Suan and teachers. The workshop was conducted by Dr Ngeow. It saw the participation of 40 SMJK Chung Hwa teachers.
Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Dr Ngeow conducted the workshop titled “Embracing the new normal in student learning” at Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on 30 March 2023. The workshop, which received the participation of 60 teachers, was officiated by Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School Principal Dr Chung Chin Hing.
Chung Hwa Middle School, Brunei
For the last stop, Dr Ngeow visited Chung Hwa Middle School, Brunei on 31 March 2023. She conducted a workshop titled “Effective teaching skills via self-efficacy & self-empowerment”. The team received a warm welcome from Chung Hwa Middle School Principal Kho Guik Lan and the teachers. The workshop attracted a total of 117 teachers.
Each workshop ended with a brief introduction to UTAR, followed by group photography sessions.
Overall, the workshops provided a platform for the participants to practise mindfulness in overcoming emotions and challenges in the education system and exchange their solicitudes on the current education system.
