Preparing school students for career aspirations

As an initiative to expose secondary school students to the various career opportunities available in the fields of Arts and Sciences, UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised a talk titled “Arts and sciences career pathways” for 127 Form Four students at SMJK Dindings, Lumut on 27 March 2023. The talk was conducted by CFS Kampar Campus academics Tang Sok Bee and Hoh Ming Chee.

Tang started the talk by administering a basic personality test to assess students’ skills and interests. She then discussed the various career pathways available in the fields of arts and science. She also shared insights on the skills required to succeed in these fields and highlighted the current market trends.

Hoh, on the other hand, explained the science programmes and the career prospects available in the fields of science and technology. She also shed light on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and elaborated on the uses of Artificial Intelligence. The talk ended with a souvenir exchange ceremony and a group photography session.

Overall, the talk was well-received by the students. They found the talk to be helpful and informative and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the engaging event.
