Discovering bank products and career pathways in Public Bank

The Department of Marketing and the Department of Banking and Risk Management parked under the Faculty of Business and Finance organised a talk titled “Public Bank’s Banking Products and Career Path” on 7 April 2023 via Microsoft Teams. The online talk has attracted more than 170 participants including UTAR staff and students.

Invited to deliver the talk were Public Bank Berhad (PBB) Deputy Director and Head of Enterprise Banking Dennis Lai Koah Vui, PBB Business Development Manager Chiang Jun Yee, and PBB Business Development Manager Nor Azurah Ahmad.

The talk  focused on Public Bank’s history and cash management services which are currently being offered to the Bank’s corporate and retail customers. Other contents included the benefits of working with Public Bank, the career pathway in Public Bank, the vision of Public Bank and the prospects of working in Public Bank.

Chiang highlighting Public Bank’s growth and journey

Chiang gave a brief introduction to the history of the Public Bank, which has 264 branches in Malaysia and 152 branches overseas with a total staff strength of more than 19,000. “Public Bank was initiated in 1966, as one of the largest banking players in South East Asia, reaching out to more than 10 million customers. Public Bank’s commitment is to embark on a digital transformation journey as the way forward to meet the future needs and expectations of stakeholders, focusing on taking its performance to the next level,” he said.

Next, Chiang shared about Public Bank’s credit and debit cards, deposits (including fixed deposits, saving accounts, current accounts, and foreign currency accounts), investments (including gold investment account and PB dual currency investment), and cash management services. On the other hand, He also explained on the core functions of Public Bank Enterprise which included account management, file upload, fund transfer, payment, approval management, corporate administration, and reports. He also explained the public services offered by Public Bank for its customers which included DuitNow online banking/wallets, PB QR, virtual accounts, JomPay, PayNet Direct Debit Services and Financing.

Nor Azurah highlighting the benefit of management trainee career development

In terms of career development, Nor Azurah highlighted the benefits of working with the Public Bank. She said, “For career development, during the first year, fresh graduates will join Public Bank as a Management Trainee (MT) under the supervision of a mentor. They will receive on-the-job training and classroom training which would expose them to PB Talent Max programme, Sales and Marketing Programme, Asian Institute Chartered Bankers and many more. After one year, all the MTs will be promoted to full-fledged senior officers known as Senior Executives. Meanwhile, the progression upward will also be based on the merits of performance. There will be opportunities for cross-functional and overseas operation experience.”

The talk ended with an interactive and insightful Q&A session followed by a virtual group photography session.
