Visit by University of Sanya and GTDG

UTAR received visitors from the University of Sanya and Geely Talent Development Group (GTDG), China on 6 May 2023 at its Sungai Long Campus.

Present were University of Sanya President and GTDG CEO Prof Dr Lu Dan, University of Sanya and GTDG Vice President Assoc Prof Dr Che Yi, China-Malaysia Future Institute Deputy Dean Prof Wang Kunqiang, Industry-Education Synergy Office Head Li Xing, GTDG Brand Assistant of President Office Hu Shiqi and In-house Counsel Cai Hanrui.

They were welcomed by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, Institute of Chinese Studies Dean Assoc Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei, Faculty of Creative Industries Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Thinavan Periyayyam, Faculty of Accountancy and Management academic Dr Foo Meow Yee, Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research Deputy Director Prof Ts Dr Lim Yang Mooi, and Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn.

At the meeting, Prof Dato’ Ewe and Prof Lu shared their respective experiences. Prof Dato’ Ewe said that the support of the community was essential for the establishment of UTAR. Hence, he believes in giving back to the community. Prof Lu, on the other hand, praised Malaysia for its multicultural environment and stated that everyone should learn from it. He also invited UTAR to participate in a study on a Chinese cultural project, hosted by the University of Sanya. Other topics of discussion included academic and student exchange programmes, joint teaching courses, conferences, etc.

The visit ended with a souvenir exchange and a group photography session. UTAR and the University of Sanya have been close partners ever since they signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 12 December 2019. The MoU was re-new in December 2021. In addition, GTDG previously visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 8 December 2022.
