Visit by NPTU

On 24 May 2023, National Pingtung University (NPTU) Administrative Affairs Vice President Prof Dr Ying-Wei Liu, Office of International Affairs Dean Prof Dr Kelvin H. C. Chen, Department of Chinese Language and Literature Chair Prof Dr Wen-Chu Huang and Office of International Affairs Project Assistant Chi-Hui Chung visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus.

They were welcomed by UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Institute of Chinese Studies Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Chin Chong Foh, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn and Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) of Sungai Long Campus Head Fook Oi Yee.  

Also joining from Kampar Campus via video conference were Faculty of Science Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Dr Phoon Lee Quen and DSSC Kampar Campus Head Hee Chwen Yee.

NPTU has been UTAR’s close partner since the signing of the first MoU in 2013. The visit this time around aimed to build strong rapport and intensify areas of collaboration between UTAR and NPTU.

In the meeting, Prof Goi mentioned at the meeting that there are plenty of areas in which UTAR and NPTU can work together. He also took the opportunity to welcome NPTU inbound students to UTAR to experience the diverse culture in Malaysia.

Prof Liu, on the other hand, introduced the origin and background of NPTU, and said, “Globalisation and internationalisation are our main focus, which is why we hope to connect with our old and new friends through mutual collaborations.” He also welcomed UTAR students to visit NPTU to explore their local culture.

Meanwhile, Dr Lai also took the opportunity to introduce the virtual student mobility programmes to the delegates, which included the Magallanes World Study Tour, Cyber Classroom, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) courses, and Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).

An in-depth discussion was carried out between the two parties regarding possible areas of collaboration which included student exchange programmes, short-term programmes, internships, joint projects and virtual student mobility programmes. Both parties looked forward to furthering collaboration in the future.

The meeting ended with a souvenir exchange and a group photography session.
