UTAR and Shandong University of Science and Technology (SDUST) signed the
memorandum of understanding (MoU) at UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 17 October
2023. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and
SDUST Secretary of the Party Committee Prof Luo Gongli. Embassy of the
People’s Republic of China in Malaysia (Embassy of China to Malaysia)
Counsellor for Science Dr Zhao Xiangdong also attended and witnessed this
MoU signing ceremony.
This MoU will pave the way for a wide array of transformative ventures
between the two universities. These ventures will encompass international
collaborative research projects, programmes dedicated to nurturing talent,
substantial exchanges of both staff and students, seminars, conferences, and
workshops.
Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “I have every confidence that UTAR and SDUST will enjoy
a seamless and delightful collaboration in the times ahead. I eagerly
anticipate increased exchanges between our two universities following
today's signing ceremony. Through our mutual collaboration, we aspire to
generate greater value for the academic community, and make meaningful
contributions to the bond between our two nations and their societies.”

Prof Luo said, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to UTAR on their
remarkable achievements. While UTAR may be a relatively young university, it
has left a lasting impression on us in terms of its commitment to student
development, innovative technology, exchange programmes, and collaborative
efforts. We believe that our visit for learning and exchange will lay a
strong foundation for deeper collaboration between UTAR and SDUST in the
future. With the signing of this MoU today, we are confident that it will
establish a solid groundwork for the success of our future collaborations
and exchanges. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr
Zhao (Xiangdong) for his instrumental role in bringing us together and
contributing to our higher education endeavours.”

The signing ceremony concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a group
photo. During the discussions, both universities expressed their strong
commitment to cultivating partnerships encompassing a wide array of
initiatives, including academic exchanges, student exchanges, study tours,
internships, and scholarships. Prof Luo made a special mention of their
renowned and highly-ranked Department of Safety Engineering in China and
extended a warm invitation to UTAR students to come to their university for
learning and exchange. The visit concluded with an informative campus tour.
