Nursing graduates to registered nurses

The dedicated staff of the Department of Nursing

Another group of Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) graduates successfully passed their Malaysia Nursing Board (Lembaga Jururawat Malaysia) licensure examination, which grants them the license to practise as nurses in the healthcare field.

Department of Nursing Head Liew Siew Fun commented, “Since our first graduate in 2015, our students have always excelled in this examination. One student in 2016, and another student in 2018, were even given the Cemerlang recognition, for their outstanding results, among thousands of students taking the same exam. This time round, we even had the first international student from Nigeria, passing the exam. We are indeed proud of all our graduates.”

She also said, “The students’ academic excellence is truly a result of their commitment towards their studies and the dedication of the academic staff of the Department of Nursing. Before the actual exam, a two-to-three-week intensive revision is conducted to prepare our students. Pre-, intra- and post-tests are to evaluate our students and look for areas that they need improvements. It takes a lot of effort for our students to attend these training sessions because the sessions are conducted physically. I am happy to see that their hard work has paid off. I am also thankful to my team for their dedication in preparing these training sessions for revision, and their love towards the students. We definitely want to see them do well, and as educators, we are doing our best to help them achieve that goal.” The graduates are currently employed in national and international public and private hospitals and other healthcare areas.

The Malaysia Nursing Board governs nursing education and registration of nurses, and is responsible for carrying out these activities, namely (1) The development of syllabus and curriculum for Basic Nurse Training, (2) The organisation of final examination for registration, (3) The issuance of the Nurse Training Certificate, (4) Development of the regulations to control the practice of nursing through registration and issuance of the Nursing Registration Certificate and Registration Badge, (5) The development of the Nurses Registration Regulation, and (6) Extension of the Nurses Act to Sarawak and Sabah.
