UTAR students participate in Huawei Showcase

Twelve students and two Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) lecturers, namely Dr Hafiz bin Basarudin and Dr Justin Lee Bing participated in the 'Visit to Huawei Showcase' at Taman Tugu, Kuala Lumpur on 21 October 2023. The event, organised by Huawei, aimed to expose students and staff to the importance of preserving the rainforest. Besides, it also aimed to educate them on how to utilise technologies to preserve and protect the rainforest.

The event was in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 7: Affordable and Clean Energy; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. It was facilitated by Ms Atiqah Khairudin from Huawei.

At the event, students and staff hiked the rainforest trail of 1.5km. Following the hike was a demonstration of drone technology by Huawei. The drone is used to assist park rangers in identifying cases of illegal logging.
