Visit by Tongji University, China

UTAR received visitors from Tongji University, China on 2 November 2023 at Sungai Long Campus.

The visitors from Tongji University were Vice President Prof Peng Zhenwei, Graduate School Deputy Dean Si Huiwen, International Students Office Director Assoc Prof Dr Chen Yili, and International Students Office Head of Admissions Fang Xiaozhi.

Welcoming the visitors were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research (IPSR) Director Assoc Prof Dr Yong Thian Khok, Centre for Extension Education Director Assoc Prof  Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock, Centre for Corporate and Community Development (CCCD) Director Ms Lim Guat Yen and DCInterNet Assistant Manager Ms Wang Yiling.

Ongoing discussion at the meeting room

The discussion commenced with the screening of corporate videos by both UTAR and Tongji University. Prof Goi and Prof Peng eloquently represented their respective universities, providing overviews of their institutions as well as their history, goals, course offerings, campus facilities and more. Dr Lai and Prof Chen took turns to explain their universities’ international exchange plans and highlighted the outcomes achieved by both universities. The comprehensive dialogue encompassed a wide range of topics, including research collaboration, staff and student exchange programmes, study tours, conferences, workshops, academic seminars, talks and many more. During the discussion, UTAR academics were notably impressed by Tongji University’s exemplary civil engineering programmes and expressed a keen interest to seek collaboration in this specific area.

The visit ended with a souvenir exchange and a group photo session.
