MoA signing between GUFE and UTAR

The signing ceremony of the memorandum of agreement (MoA) between UTAR and Guangxi University of Finance and Economics (GUFE) and the unveiling ceremony of the “Joint Research and Education Centre for Data Science and Business Intelligence” poster were held on 3 November 2023 at Sungai Long Campus. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and GUFE President Prof Xia Fei.

Representing GUFE were its School of Business Administration Dean Prof Zhao Feng, School of International Education Dean Prof Chi Zhaomei, China-ASEAN Institute of Statistics Executive Dean Prof He Qingguang, Department of International Cooperation and Exchange Deputy Director Prof Liu Sulan and GUFE staff.

Present on behalf of UTAR were UTAR Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) Dean Prof Ts Dr Liew Soung Yue, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) Dean Dr Pok Wei Fong, FICT Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Choo Peng Yin and Division of Community and International Networking Deputy Director Dr Chen, I-Chi.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “In this era of globalisation, international exchange and cooperation have become a key initiative in the field of higher education. For many years, it has been committed to integrating with international standards, carrying out cooperation projects with universities and research institutions around the world, and jointly promoting knowledge exchange and innovative research. We have signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) with more than 100 universities and colleges in China and established close strategic partnerships.”

He concluded, “Through the signing of this agreement, we will promote the sharing of high-quality educational resources between the two universities, promote the establishment of a more extensive academic exchange and cooperation mechanism between the two schools, further promote the discipline construction of related majors, and enhance the international competition of both parties. Through this cooperation agreement, we also expect the two universities to jointly conduct research projects, faculty exchange visits, student exchange programmes, seminars, workshops and other aspects of cooperation in the future.”

Prof Xia said, “We still need many cooperation platforms and projects around the new finance economy industry. A higher level of collaboration, especially with ASEAN, is very important for us. ASEAN is our most friendly partner and our neighbour, and Malaysia is one of the most important countries.”

He concluded, “Through this visit, based on these backgrounds, there will be a broader space for cooperation and deeper cooperation between our two universities. With this MoA and the unveiling of the “Joint Research and Education Centre for Data Science and Business Intelligence”, the cooperation between our two universities has reached a new level and opened a new chapter.”
