STEM 2.0 Community Project for Preschoolers at Tabika Kemas Parlimen Kampar

The Centre for Foundation Studies of Kampar Campus organised a community service project titled ‘STEM 2.0 for preschoolers’ on 21 September 2023 at Tabika Kemas Parlimen Kampar.

The community project was led by CFS project leader Puan Noorfadzlyah Ahmad along with 16 academic staff from CFS Kampar. It was attended by 30 preschoolers from the age of 4 to 6 years old. In addition, two teachers from Tabika Kemas were also present to help coordinate the activities.

The project aimed to provide preschoolers with hands-on experience related to STEM. The activities were designed especially for them (preschoolers) to foster curiosity and critical thinking.

The activities were divided into three categories; the first activity was the DIY Robotic Hand, led by the Technology and Engineering team. The activity encouraged the exploration of robotics and engineering for the development of creative thinking. It was an inventive engineering activity that taught them to create a moving, bendable robotic hand.

The second activity was called the Centre of Gravity. Led by the Science team, the participants were given a demonstration of two forks being balanced at the tip of a toothpick. The last activity for the day was called Maths is an Art. The main objective of the activity was to improve the basic number of recognition skills and artistic abilities among the preschoolers. The challenge aimed to determine their creativity.

Upon completing of the three activities, the organising team conducted a prize-giving ceremony to celebrate and recognise the efforts of the preschoolers. The prizes were delivered by the Department of Arts and Social Science Head, Ms Pakialetchumy Antoni.

Early Childhood Education Assistant Officer Puan Azuwa binti Jamal Ares extended her appreciation and thanked all the staff from CFS Kampar for organising this meaningful project and sharing valuable learning experiences with the preschoolers. She hopes more events can be conducted in the future to develop preschoolers’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The STEM 2.0 for preschooler’s community project was a memorable day for everyone and the importance of STEM as an objective of the project was fulfilled at the end of the day. The day concluded with a group photograph.
