Communication University of China visits UTAR

UTAR academics, CUC academics and students

UTAR received visitors from the Communication University of China (CUC) on 14 November 2023 at Sungai Long Campus.

The visitors from CUC were Institute for a Community with a Shared Future (ICSF) Deputy Dean Prof Dr Zhang Yanqiu, Institute of Communication Studies academic Assoc Prof Chen Wenqin, School of International academic Assoc Prof Meng Lanjuan, Communication Studies PhD students Cong Jing, He Yang, Tan Mingming, Xu Rui, Yan Jingchu; Communication Studies Master students Li Chaoyang, Zang Xiangqi, Jiang Yinghan and Zhong Yongqi.

Welcoming the visitors were Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Chin Chong Foh, Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) Department of Mass Communication Head Mr Kenneth Lee Tze Wui, Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre for Social and Policy Studies (TCLC) Chairperson Assoc Prof Dr Chin Yee Mun, Centre for International Studies (CIS) Chairperson Dr Tan Wooi Yee, Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) academic Dr Fok Kuk Fai, FCI academic Mr Tan Yang Sheng and DCInterNet Senior Assistant Manager Ms Liu Dan.

During the visit, Dr Lai delivered a warm welcome speech and delivered a concise introduction about UTAR. Prof Zhang mentioned that the primary objective of the CUC team’s visit to Malaysia was to conduct an in-depth investigation and study on various aspects of Malaysia’s higher education landscape, the perspective of the Malaysian media on Sino-Malaysian relationships, and the promotion of Chinese culture in Malaysia. The team expressed a keen interest in discussing these topics with UTAR academics. Other subjects of interest included the Belt and Road Initiative in Malaysia, and the dissemination of Chinese films and TV dramas in Malaysia. The visit aimed to foster meaningful dialogues and exchanges that contribute to mutual understanding and collaboration between CUC and UTAR.

The visit ended with a souvenir exchange and a group photo session.
