Dr Rana introducing herself

Dr Rana mentioned that supervising adult researchers in the digital era necessitates a dynamic and adaptive approach. By developing effective supervision strategies, promoting researchers’ well-being and professional growth, and acknowledging the specific challenges and expectations inherent in the digital realm, mentors can play a pivotal role in ensuring the success and fulfilment of researchers in today’s rapidly advancing technological landscape.

Another aspect emphasised by Dr Rana involved guidance on the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in research. Supervisors must address the potential pitfalls of AI misuse and establish guidelines to prevent unintended consequences. Emphasising ethical considerations and the importance of understanding the limitations and biases inherent in AI systems is paramount. Properly using AI involves providing researchers with training on AI ethics, promoting transparency in algorithmic decision-making, and fostering a critical mindset to ensure that AI is a tool for enhancing research rather than a source of unintended biases or ethical dilemmas.
