Education Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality and three educational institutes visit UTAR

UTAR received visitors from the Education Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality and three educational institutes, namely Guangzhou Panyu Polytechnic, Guangzhou Health Science College, and Guangzhou Vocational School of Tourism & Business on 20 November 2023 at Sungai Long Campus.

During the visit, UTAR and Guangzhou Health Science College signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on various fronts, including exploring talent cultivation through joint programmes, exchanging academic staff and students, co-hosting academic seminars, talks and workshops, and organising teachers and student’s qualification enhancement programmes.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “This marks a crucial opportunity for us to further expand our collaboration and achieve shared success. Together, we will explore future avenues of partnership, ranging from strengthening academic exchanges to collaborating on initiatives such as joint talent development, as well as supporting students and faculty in advancing their educational qualifications. We eagerly anticipate that through this collaboration, we can provide students with an even more extensive learning platform and offer teachers a broader space for academic exchange. Furthermore, we look forward to leveraging our shared knowledge and resources to collectively propel academic progress and better serve our community.”

Guangzhou Health Science College President Ms Lu Suihua said, “We understand that UTAR is a highly reputable and distinguished university, having successfully collaborated with well-known universities in our country. This insight encourages us to explore areas for more profound cooperation in the future. We are eagerly anticipating fruitful outcomes from this collaboration. We extend a warm welcome to Prof Dato’ Ewe and the team, inviting you to Guangzhou and our Guangzhou Health Science College for guidance and in-depth exploration.”

Education Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality Deputy Director-General Mr Gu Zhongpeng expressed admiration for UTAR’s impressive accomplishments within a mere 20-year span. He conveyed immense satisfaction at the opportunity to engage in discussions with UTAR and witness the signing of the memorandum of understanding between UTAR and Guangzhou Health Science College. He expressed his hope for more colleges in Guangzhou to forge similar agreements with UTAR in the future, promoting educational collaboration and enhancing international exposure for students.

Present were Education Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality Division of Higher Education Director Ms Liu Linrui, Division of Vocational Education and Lifelong Education Director Ms Huang Hui, Guangzhou Panyu Polytechnic President Mr Lin Qiasheng, and Guangzhou Vocational School of Tourism & Business President Mr Zhang Libo.

Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Dr Leong Pooi Pooi, UTAR Hospital T&CM Centre Director Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Dr Ng Kar Yee, and Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn.
