LKC FES Postgraduate Research Colloquium 2023 makes a comeback
The Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Postgraduate Research Colloquium 2023 made a comeback once again on 9 November 2023. The annual event was held at the Multipurpose Hall of UTAR Sungai Long Campus. It aimed to provide the postgraduate students of LKC FES with a platform to present their projects and research findings, and exchange ideas on their research works.
The colloquium featured a total of six keynote lectures and six parallel postgraduate presentation sessions, namely “Applied Engineering 1”, “Applied Engineering 2”, “Applied Mathematics / Computing”, “Artificial Intelligence / Health Technology”, “Energy Management / Green Technology”, and “Sustainable Development”.
The colloquium commenced with a welcome remark by LKC FES Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, who expressed his gratitude for the tremendous support received for this event. He also thanked the academics and industry leaders for their participation and invited them to deliver their keynote lectures. The speakers invited were Michigan State University, United States (US) Assoc Prof Dr Lee Lik Chuan; John Deere (US) ex-engineer Dr Teh Kuen Tat; Caltech Nasa (US) Senior Research Scientist Dr Simon H. Yueh and research scientist Dr Andreas Colliander; Co-founder of Solid Lab Sdn Bhd and LKC FES academic Ir Dr Tey Jing Yuen, and LKC FES academic Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Yew Ming Chian.
The colloquium continued with the parallel sessions where postgraduate students presented their research topics. Their insightful presentations were evaluated by the respective session chairs. One best presenter was elected from each session.
At the end of each postgraduate presentation session, one best presenter was selected. The list of best presenters is as follows:
Meanwhile, the project demo session, which required students to create a two-minute video to demonstrate their research projects, received an overwhelming response from the participants. They were required to cast votes and choose the most interesting and remarkable project demo. As a result, one of the participants, Thiresamary Kurian, won the Most Liked Demo prize. She walked away with a certificate and a cash prize worth RM106.70, sponsored by Netizen Experience Sdn Bhd.
The colloquium ended with the presentation of a token of appreciation and a group photograph session.
The colloquium was organised by LKC FES along with 11 research centres from UTAR, namely the Centre for Power Systems and Electricity (CPSE); the Centre for Cyber Security (CCS); the Centre for Sustainable Mobility Technologies (CSMT); the Centre for Healthcare Science and Technology (CHST); the Centre for Photonics and Advanced Materials Research (CPAMR); the Centre of Sustainable Design & Built Environment (COSBE); the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS); the Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR); the Centre for Railway Infrastructure and Engineering (CRIE); the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Computing Applications (CAICA), and the Centre for Communication Systems & Networks (CCSN). With a total of 88 abstracts received, the colloquium saw the participation of 174 participants.
