In a bid to ignite the spark of curiosity and
enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
among young learners, UTAR STEM Outreach joined hands with the Centre for
Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus, the Faculty of Engineering and
Green Technology (FEGT) and the Faculty of Information and Communication
Technology (FICT) to organise STEM hands-on activities in conjunction with
Karnival STEM Gopeng 2.0, which
was held on 23 September 2023 at
Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) Gopeng.
Six engaging STEM activities were orchestrated during
the carnival. CFS spearheaded four activities, which included “Which drink
has the most vitamin C?”, “How much sugar is in your drink?”, “Conservation
of angular momentum” and “Centre of gravity”. Meanwhile, FEGT offered an
intriguing “DIY: Epoxy resin keychain and removal of dye using activated
carbon” and FICT introduced participants to the world of drones at the
“Drone experience workshop”.
Furthermore, an enlightening STEM Forum titled “The
Future is Now!” took place during the event. Dr Ong Kiah Ju, the head of
STEM Outreach, and Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Leong Kah Hon from FEGT, who also
represented The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), were honoured to
serve as the panellists at the forum.
Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB
Tuan Chang Lih Kang was the guest of honour at the
Karnival STEM Gopeng 2.0.
