MMU renews MoU with UTAR

UTAR and Multimedia University (MMU) signed a renewal of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) at MMU Cyberjaya Campus on 9 October 2023. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and MMU President Prof Dato’ Dr Mazliham Mohd Su’ud. The witnesses were UTAR Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ts Dr Faidz bin Abd Rahman and MMU Vice President for Market Exploration, Engagement and Touchpoint Prof Ir Dr Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid.

Under this MoU, both universities will initiate a range of transformative initiatives, including international collaborative research projects, talent development programmes, extensive staff and student exchanges, dynamic seminars, conferences, and workshops. Furthermore, both universities are committed to providing internship opportunities for undergraduate students and exploring avenues for joint supervision of postgraduate and doctoral students.

Prof Dato’ Mazliham began his speech by recalling the exchanges and interactions between the two universities since the signing of the MoU in 2010. He particularly highlighted the visit to UTAR in February of this year, during which representatives from both universities discussed numerous future collaboration opportunities. This visit ultimately led to the signing of today's MoU. He hopes that, with the signing of this MoU, the relationship between the two universities will continue to strengthen, and that through increased collaboration, both universities will experience further growth and development.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said: “I believe that this MoU will enhance research opportunities for faculties, fostering the cross-pollination of ideas and resulting in innovative research outcomes. For students, it provides global exposure through exchanges and internships, enriching their personal and academic development. Faculty members benefit from professional development and intellectual exchange, ultimately enhancing teaching and research quality. This collaboration also fortifies our institutions’ networks, nurturing future partnerships and funding opportunities. In essence, this MoU underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence, propelling growth, diversity, and innovation within our academic community.”

Also present at the signing ceremony were MMU Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM) Dean Ts Dr Lim Kok Yoong, Faculty of Engineering (FOE) Dean Dr Ooi Chee Pun, Faculty of Management (FOM) Dean Dr Low Jing Hong, Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) Prof Ts Dr Lau Siong Hoe, Government Liaisons and Industry Engagement (GLIE) Director Datin Noorlindah Hassan.
