In a
move aimed at nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals,
Sunway Medical Centre Sdn Bhd (SMC) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to sponsor students pursuing a
Bachelor of Nursing degree. This sponsorship covers tuition fees and
allowances, providing aspiring nurses the opportunity to commence their
studies and subsequent career in nursing and healthcare.
This
agreement was formally signed by Dato’ Lau Beng Long, President of Sunway
Healthcare Group, and Ir. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ewe Hong Tat, President of
Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. The signing was witnessed by Dr. Fong Ka
Ling, Head of Nursing Education at Sunway Healthcare Group, and Prof. Dr.
Choong Chee Keong, UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni
Relations.
This
MoU between Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG) and UTAR represents a significant
commitment to the development of the nursing profession in Malaysia. It
highlights both organizations' dedication to providing educational
opportunities and career pathways for talented young individuals who aspire
to make a difference in the nursing and healthcare sector.
Under
the terms of the MoU, selected students pursuing the Bachelor of Nursing at
UTAR will receive full financial support, covering their tuition fees and
providing them with allowances to support their living expenses throughout
their studies. This support not only eases the financial burden on students
but also ensures that they can focus on their studies and professional
development without distractions.
Upon
graduation, these sponsored nursing students will be offered full-time
positions at any of the hospitals under SHG, where they can embark on their
career path in the healthcare industry. SHG is renowned for its commitment
to excellence in patient care, and these graduates will have the opportunity
to be part of the nursing team at its hospitals, namely Sunway Medical
Centre Sunway City, Sunway Medical Centre Velocity and Sunway Medical Centre
Penang. Additionally, there are also opportunities for nursing graduates to
explore career pathways with SHG’s ancillary services, such as Sunway Home
Healthcare and Sunway Specialist Centre Damansara.
UTAR's
unwavering pursuit of academic excellence and SHG’s commitment to quality
nursing and healthcare, have made this partnership a mutually beneficial
collaboration.
