UTAR Centre for Corporate and Community Development (CCCD), in collaboration with UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), organised a webinar titled “Introduction to generative ai tools - ChatGPT and stable diffusion” on 19 September 2023 via Zoom and FB Live. Invited to give the talk was HRD Corp Accredited Trainer Ir Dr Danny Ng Wee Kiat, who is also a lecturer at LKC FES. The objective of the talk was to introduce participants to the concept of AI-generated content and offer them insights into how these tools are utilised to transform industries.

Dr Danny specialises in the field of robotics and its practical applications. He completed his PhD in Engineering in 2021. Since 2019, he has been a registered professional engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. He actively engages in industry-focused research, and collaborations with notable companies such as TF AMD Microelectronics Sdn Bhd and Greatech Berhad. He also provides consulting services to MIMOS Berhad, Malaysia’s National Applied R&D Centre, specifically in robot development.

The talk kickstarted with a brief introduction about Dr Danny by LKC FES academic Dr Kwan Ban Hoe. At the beginning of the talk, Dr Danny gave the participants a brief but detailed introduction to generative AI tools. He also talked about the generative tools’ capabilities and current limitations, and provided a summary to further enhance participants’ understanding of the talk. On top of that, he also did some live demonstrations of ChatGPT to the audience using different prompts.

Moving on, Dr Danny briefed the audience regarding the image generation tools and performed some live demonstrations. He also reminded participants about the limitations of such tools such as AI hallucinations, which consisted of fake references or even citing from a non-existent case.  Dr Danny also stated that different prompts will generate different responses and therefore, it is important to use a clear and precise prompt.
