The Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) organised the AICB Universities Partnership event at Bangunan AICB, Kuala Lumpur on 27 September 2023. The event saw the participation of six higher education institutions comprising management, lecturers and students, and eight financial institutions comprising 21 representatives from the banks.
A total of three faculty management committees from the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF), namely Dean Assoc Prof Dr Au Yong Hui Nee, Deputy Dean Dr Kuah Yoke Chin and Head of Department of Banking and Risk Management Chong Tun Pin; and three Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) Banking and Finance students attended the event.
The AICB Universities Partnership event aimed to create a pathway to professional qualification, enhance awareness, forge stronger partnerships, promote sustainable growth strategies and cultivate financial services expertise. The Director of Growth and Strategic Partnerships, AICB Encik Farhan Zamri welcomed all the delegates in his opening speech.
Assistant Manager, Business Relations, Growth and Strategic Partnership Encik Muhammad Hasiib Shaharuddin provided an overview of the Chartered Banker’s qualification. According to him, there are three levels of Chartered Banker qualification, namely Level 1: Foundation Certificated Programmes, Level 2: Specialised Certificated Programme, and Level 3: Chartered Banker (CB) Programmes.
He continued with a briefing on the AICB-Universities Partnership. He explained, “The purpose of this partnership is to recognise the universities’ programmes, build industry linkage, and create a potential talent pool.”
UTAR is one of the six universities named in the list of AICB Universities Partner by AICB. Two undergraduate programmes offered by UTAR FBF are recognised for advanced entry into Level 2 of the Chartered Banker qualification. The programmes are Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) Banking and Finance, and Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) Risk Management.
A token of appreciation ceremony ensued, where Dr Au Yong received the souvenirs from Encik Farhan Zamri. A group photo was taken at the event and the representatives from UTAR eagerly took the opportunity to take pictures as memorabilia of the event
The Financial Sector Talent Enrichment Programme (FSTEP) is one of the ideas of former Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Governor Tan Sri Dato Sri’ Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz and is managed by The Asian Banking School (ABS) in collaboration with BNM. UTAR is one of the participating institutions in FSTEP and our students have been actively participating in their programme. The UTAR management team also met FSTEP Senior Manager Ms Khaw Ai Ling to discuss potential collaboration with FSTEP.
To conclude, the event provided a platform for interaction and collaboration. With light refreshments and networking opportunities, the event was a success and left a lasting impression on all attendees.
