UTAR signs MoU and student exchange agreement with SBKU

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Student Exchange Agreement signing ceremony between UTAR and Samdech Preah Mahasangharajah Bour Kry University (SBKU), Cambodia, was held on 18 October 2023 at Sungai Long Campus. Signing the MoU and Student Exchange Agreement were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and SBKU Rector His Eminence Vong Aneta.

In his speech, Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “Collaborations like this not only enrich the quality of education, but also contribute to addressing global issues, and nurturing a new generation of leaders and innovators. These initiatives will not only enrich the academic experience of our students, but also broaden their global perspectives, thus preparing them to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.”

H.E. Vong Aneta said, “We would like to extend our warm welcome to UTAR academics and students to visit Cambodia to enjoy our warm hospitality. SBKU is delighted to collaborate with UTAR. We share the same goals of providing quality education, and with this collaboration, I hope the students can achieve good education and contribute back to the society,” as he mentioned on the importance of education to expand one’s horizon.

Under the MoU, both parties will initiate joint projects involving collaborative research, and the sharing of expertise. The partnership also seeks to facilitate industrial study visits to students, to provide them with real-world exposure and practical experiences that complement their academic learning.

The student exchange programme will enable students from both universities to broaden their horizons, immerse themselves in new cultures, and learn to embrace the diversity of our global community.

SBKU was represented by its Faculty of Social Science Deputy Dean Venerable Chhin Horn, Faculty of Development Study and Tourism Deputy Dean Venerable Po Sokvun, Faculty of Science and Technology Deputy Dean Venerable Son Sophours, Faculty of Science and Technology Deputy Dean Venerable Soun Teng, Faculty of Art Humanity and Languages Deputy Dean Venerable Ka Kosal, Member of Foundation Year Department Venerable Negn Seangly, Chief of Academic Affairs Office Venerable Sien Mab, Chief of Information Broadcasting Ven. Morn Samit, Chief of Administration office Mr Sngourn Saobunnath, Advisor Mr Tai Kok Pok and Chief of Human Resource office Mr Hin Sareourn.

UTAR was represented by Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, Faculty of Accountancy and Management Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Dr Ng Kar Yee, Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Institute of Chinese Studies Head of Department Chinese Studies (Sg Long Campus) Assoc Prof Dr Liau Ping Leng, Centre for Extension Education Director Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock, and Division of Programme Promotion Deputy Director Irene Wong Hong Lei. Joining online were Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology Dean Ir Prof Dr Ng Choon Aun, Faculty of Arts and Social Science Dean Dr Lee Lai Meng and Faculty of Business and Finance Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Dr Peter Tan Sin Howe.

The signing ceremony was followed by a discussion and group photography session.
