Basic computer training courses for the disabled

UTAR - Dual Blessing 2023 Computer Training Class Graduation Ceremony was held at Dual Blessing Bhd on 19 October 2023. Six participants completed the four-month IT Training courses and acquired basic computer skills which included Windows Basics, and managing Google Accounts and Apps. The recipients who completed the IT Computer Training 2023: Basic Computer Skills were V. Kanesan, Dennis Lim Wai Hoe, Tiau Theng Yuk, Loong De Qing, Chong Zu Wei and Lee May Xin. The training was conducted by four academics from UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS), namely Mr Ling Kock Sheng, Mrs B. A. Jesica Malani, Ms Yeoh Li-Cheng and Mr Mok Ru Kai.

Present at the ceremony were Executive Director of IOI Foundation & Founder of Bargain Basement Datin Joanne Wong Su-Ching, Director of Dual Blessing Bhd Mr Leong Chun Wah, Director of Dual Blessing Bhd Madam Christine Leong Sau Leng, General Manager of Dual Blessing Bhd Ms Cynthia Chaw Sing Thow, UTAR CFS Sungai Long Campus Director Ms Melissa Stefanie Netto, Head of Department of Soft Skills Competency for Sungai Long Campus Ms Fook Oi Yee, and staff from Dual Blessing Bhd and UTAR.

Ms Melissa said, “The participants have demonstrated to us that disabilities do not define one’s potential. Instead, it is the strength of character, the thirst for knowledge, and the unwavering resolve that shape our true capabilities. Today, they don’t just earn their certificates; they earn our admiration and respect.”

Ms Cynthia said, “This is a great initiative and it brings hope for people with disability to acquire more skills that are useful in their lives. We anticipate future collaboration with UTAR to better serve the community. I believe by uplifting others, we too, are being uplifted.”

Mr Ling and Ms Jesica shared, “We congratulate all the participants of this initiative for overcoming all the challenges, for their dedication and perseverance in learning computer skills. Be confident in yourself and you will be successful in what you do.”

Kanesan said, “Thank you for giving us this opportunity. This course has been a journey for us to unlock possibilities in the digital world. Acquiring computer skills is vital in today’s world, thus I urge all participants to continue learning to be competitive in the ever-changing landscape. Let’s use our knowledge to get a better life.”

Parents of the participants, Ms Cindy and Ms Alice expressed their gratitude for the opportunity given to their children to participate in the computer skills programme, as such an initiative enables the children to acquire the needed skills in the current world to gain better opportunities in the job market aside from building their self-esteem.

At the ceremony, Kanesan received the Most Excellent Student Award; Dennis Lim received the Perfect Attendance Award; Loong received the Best Helper Award; Lee received the Friendliest Student Award, and Chong received the Positive Attitude Award.
