UTAR paid a courtesy visit to the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang on 24 August 2023.

Led by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, the group of UTAR representatives consisted of UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) Dean Assoc Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei, and Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Deputy Director Dr Chen, I-Chi.

They were cordially received by Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang Mr Zhou Youbin, Vice Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang Ms Ding Qiao, Consul of the People’s Republic of China in Penang Mr Li Jie, and Vice Consul of the People’s Republic of China in Penang Ms Luo Lingling.    

The visit aimed to highlight UTAR’s development of international relationships in recent years, especially the collaborations with universities and corporations in China. Besides, it updated the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang about the development progress of the Confucius Institute with Dezhou University, China. The visit also saw both parties having an insightful discussion regarding potential collaborations in the future.
