Science Fair at Shen Jai High School

The highly anticipated science fair, 5cience Xplain @ Shen Jai High School 2023, was jointly organised by UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus and the Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT) in collaboration with Shen Jai High School. The event took place on 22 July 2023 as part of the school’s Science, Mathematics, and Computer Camp.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Shen Jai High School Vice Principal Yau Poh Chew, who encouraged her students to delve deeper into the world of science and technology. She expressed her hope that the mathematics and computer science exhibits would elevate the students’ understanding to another level and broaden their perspectives.

Vice Chairman of the Board at Shen Jai High School, Chan Bin Luan emphasised the importance of the Science, Mathematics, and Computer Camp, and hoped the event would motivate students to further explore their studies.

CFS Kampar Campus Director Ts Tan Lee Siew highlighted the rapid advancement of technology in medical sciences, engineering, business and services, and the emerging trends in the talent movement, and proceeded to urge the students to embrace interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in her speech.

Also present at the event were Dean of UTAR FEGT Ir Prof Dr Ng Choon Aun, members of the school board, and the alumni association of Shen Jai High School.

The event showcased a diverse array of intriguing activities and exhibits, covering scientific disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Information Technology, and Engineering. The activities aimed to provide an engaging platform for students to explore the wonders of science and technology in a hands-on way, igniting curiosity and inspiring young minds. Some of the activities included What’s in the Food you Eat?; Flower Chromatography; Decode the Matrix: A Binary Puzzle Challenge; Number Tower, and Centre of Gravity.

The students’ feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Liew Xin Ru, a Senior 3 Science stream student, said, “The Chemistry activities were so interesting! I am particularly amazed by the magical transformation of colours and the chemical concept behind it. This is beyond my expectations!” Lew Wei Leng, also a Senior 3 Science stream student, shared, “I like the hands-on experiences at the Physics booth. It allowed me to conduct the experiments I had previously seen on YouTube. It is truly amazing!”
